We are thrilled to announce that Walton on the Hill’s Howard Close Sports Pavilion has had a major transformation. After years of serving the local community, the old pavilion was demolished to make way for a brand-new modular community building, which was completed in October 2024.
This development was made possible through a combination of funding, including a generous £128,789 from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and additional contributions from the Walton Village Forum, which invested £23,000 in the project.
The new pavilion is designed to provide a modern, multi-functional space that will serve not only as a home for local sports teams but also as a community hub for Walton on the Hill residents. The original plan, which involved refurbishing and extending the existing building, was replaced with an exciting, modular structure that better suited the community’s needs.
Key Project Highlights:
- Location: Howard Close Pavilion, Walton on the Hill, Surrey, KT20 7QF
- Budget: £128,789 (CIL) + £23,000 (Walton Village Forum contribution)
- Status: Planning permission granted (ref: 24/00196/F)
- Completion Date: October 2024
The project, initiated by the Walton Village Forum, gained momentum after securing planning permission in May 2024. The new modular building will provide modern facilities and a welcoming space for a variety of local activities, from sports matches to community gatherings.
Due to the lack of RBBC Property Service Pavilion maintenance funding—initially suggested to be £25,000—an additional allocation of £25,000 has been recommended for the 2024/25 fiscal year to ensure the project’s long-term success and maintenance.
The new Howard Close Pavilion is set to become a central feature of Walton on the Hill, offering a much-needed upgrade that will benefit residents, sports teams, and community groups for years to come.
